Finished Product

Here it is! The finished "Jeff's Angels" Truth be told, I'm putting this image on a few t-shirts for my friends in time for Christmas. I really think they're going to like it. I never imagined it would come out this good but I am very pleased at the overall image. I was originally going to paint this on each shirt by hand but I figure an iron on transfer would work out just as good, if not better. Still, very excited.
In other creative news, I've been working a lot with baked goods lately. I've managed to make turkey cupcakes for Thanksgiving and a golf course (including sand traps) for my dad's birthday. I've been just buzzing with creative energy these days so expect to see some more outrageous ideas by the end of this year! Happy Holidays!

Jeff's Angels

Hey, hey! It would seem I have dropped off the face of the earth these last few months. Truth is, I started my first full time job about a month or so ago and it's taking up a lot of my time. Good news is, I've made quite a few new friends at the work place and we sort of have a few outrageous jokes going on. I decided to draw a couple of them and this is the beginning process for it. To briefly explain, I will start with my friend Jeff, whom I have not drawn yet, but believe me he will be in this picture. He had made friends with Shana, Jennifer, and I and refers to us as his angels. Now, Jen and I love bagels. We always have a bagel for breakfast every day so we started referring to Shana as the cream cheese, since she sits in between us. Shana is a very spontaneous person so sometimes she just gets up and leaves to wander around or to find food, so one day I asked "Hey, where's the cream filling?" (Between you and me, probably my finest hour. haha) So to wrap this up, here is Jeff's three beautiful angels. Also, this is going to be a Christmas present to each of them once I put it on a t-shirt. Also, not entirely sure if I like how I came out, might change my wardrobe before the final piece gets put on a T. Who knows but I'll try to show the progression. Oh and also, Shana loves her accessories so I made sure to deck her out and Jen loves to wear plaid on casual days. We'll see what I turn into as I go along.

In A Flat

I've been on a bit of a movie kick lately. It all started with 'Becoming Jane.' The part where Tom glides in to dance with Jane and she has no idea that he's coming. I love that mushy stuff! I get chills every time I watch that scene. Singing In The Rain doesn't have the exact same effect but it is, by far, my favorite movie of all time. The dances and the story as well as the costumes and makeup. It's a gorgeous, funny film. This is one of the final scenes, and forgive me if you haven't seen it, but Kathy is singing behind a curtain for Lina. The boys open the curtain and the audience is able to see Kathy singing. It's an absolute riot. I love the painting but I will admit there could have been more work done on my microphone...my dad actually pointed it out and it made me laugh because it is so my father's way of saying things. I showed him the painting and he looked it over for a minute. "You know what I don't like?" What can I say? He's my favorite critic. How can you get upset over a comment beginning like that? Anyway, so he pointed out the microphone and continued to say that is really was a stunning painting. Just like my dad to end on a good note too. Between us, I've already got an idea for a movie drawing for his Christmas present. As for real life these days, Dan got a new job! He's actually out right now getting an ID made or something for work. I'm so proud. Hopefully I'll be hearing something soon regarding my own career...wish me luck. Well, I suppose that's it for now. Much love!

Becoming Jane

I am so excited about this piece! I love this movie and this scene really inspired me for some reason. I'm just glad I drew something for the month of August. It's been awhile with everything going on. Still, I'm very pleased with the outcome. I know there isn't much going on but I love when Tom Lefroy steps in to dance with Jane and surprises her. Very cute. Anywho, not much is really going on besides work and hoping something will come of my trip to Orlando...we shall see. At any rate I'm inspired so hopefully more work will come from this little energy boost. Wish me luck.

Kerri's Wedding Gift

I didn't actually get to go to my friend Kerri's wedding but I did draw a picture of her and her fiance as a wedding gift. It took about 8 hours total and I'm quite pleased with the outcome. When I gave it to her I framed it and brought it to her at work. Of course it was down pouring at the exact moment we were moving it to her car but luckily we used a shopping bag so it turned out okay and made quite a funny story. I haven't drawn anything in pencil since Mason, which I don't count since I didn't do the same amount of detail. The last really detailed drawing I did was of my cousin Jason almost 5 years ago. Anyway, besides drawing I'm currently visiting family in Maine and today I get to see my best friend Charity which I am thrilled about seeing as it's been almost a year since the last time I saw her.

Self

I haven't been drawing too much in the past few months until I went to see "Soul Surfer." That movie really inspired me to draw some epic waves and surfers. I did a very large piece last month in watercolor although it still looks unfinished to me for some reason...Still, I've moved on by trying my hand at t-shirts. I drew this pencil sketch the other day and wanted to put it on a t-shirt. I've made a few attempts as putting my artwork on clothing and it has always failed, whether it be the lack of all the supplies needed or my rush to have a finished piece. This one worked for the most part except when I transferred my drawing onto the T I used permanent marker which bleeds...a lot. So now I have a trace of the drawing on the back of the T as well...eventually I'll get it right though. Anyway, I really like the drawing and how the painting turned out.

Before I Forget...

I forgot to say that Dan and I are currently hunting for a house! We found a few we want to look at but after our townhouse was bought while we were waiting for the bank, we're back to hunting. Which is fun, don't get me wrong. I'm very excited to look. I guess dreaming and hoping does good things for my art 'cause I am truly happy these days.

Self-Portrait

I haven't done a self portrait in years. At least not one I took the time to get it right...I scribbled a few out while looking in a mirror but the trouble is, my expressions. I make funny faces all the time without even knowing it so without catching them on film, I cannot recreate them. So I found some old photos of myself that I love! The pose, the white dress the angle...I love them. So I've been drawing a few. Here is my favorite so far. The picture is from at least 3 years ago...maybe more, but the point is I'm having fun with all these projects I'm giving myself. Go me! Haha.

A Finished Baby Is A Happy Baby...

Hooray!!! After 4 separate tries I finally finished this little guy! Phew! He definitely looks like the photo although whether he resembles himself I have no idea having never actually seen the baby since he's been born. All the same we'll see how his mother feels about him. This will be the last baby I draw for some time though, holy cow it was kind of a rough process. Still, he's finished and I managed to do a few other drawings in the past week as well! I am on a roll! There's a lot to post so we'll see...but I do think this blog needs a little color...

One more thing...

I'm really proud of this drawing I did today! I also did another to go with it, but I haven't quite got it looking the way I want. This one however, wow. I used photo reference of myself and I have to say it looks really close to the photo...minus the hair of course. I'm a huge Avatar: The Last Airbender fan so I drew one of my favorite characters, Mai. As a real person more or less...Anyway, I'm very excited about it. Next I have Azula and Ty Lee and hopefully I'll be able to incorporate all the sketches into one group shot...at least that's my plan. Wish me luck!

Changes...

So good news! I finally uploaded this picture! haha. This is a sketch I did from my bachelorette party of me and my closest friends.
On another note, the last picture I drew of Mason didn't end up turning out...I know, he looks like a cute little baby but he looks nothing like her baby. Due to a few mis-communications, or no communication at all I am still in the process of drawing his REAL portrait. I'll keep you posted on my efforts.

Mason

So, as I said before, I've been drawing believe it or not. I painted a portrait for a coworker, her son Mason. This is my second piece for her. Besides those two, one of which I still haven't gotten a copy of, I drew a contour drawing of me and my friends at my bachelorette party. I have yet to scan it...I've also been busy scrapbooking which sounds really old lady like but that's kinda how I am. It's very relaxing, more so than drawing sometimes, probably because it takes a bit less effort...a bit. haha. Anyway, I've been obsessed with scrapbooking the few photos I have of my best friend Charity and I. I think with everything going on lately I've been feeling rather lonely without her. Anyway, it's a nice tribute to our friendship and I suppose one craft is better than no creativity at all right?
Also got a call from my school councelor, I've been getting e-mails telling me to take a survey to see who has actually been successful finding a career in their chosen field...anyway, I never replied to any of the numerous e-mails so he called me yesterday. It was probably the most depressing phone call I've ever taken. Not only did I have tell the man I AM unsuccessful but I had to explain just HOW unsuccessful I've been. Of course after I hung up the phone I thought about all the art I've been producing and about the upcoming job I'm applying for that is somewhat art related. Visual Merchandiser so that will be a welcome change if I get it. Do me a favor, wish me luck.
